My child has been having tremendous pain in her ear for the past few days. I thought it was just water retaining inside her ear because she's always in the pool. Then she was sent home from her kindergarten because she was in a lot of pain and was crying because of that. I had taken her to an ear and hearing specialist here in London and he found that she had a good amount of wax in her ears. It was mainly due to earwax removal practice at home. It was something we all practiced at home. She used to always use cotton swabs right after her bath and this apparently pushed all the earwax deeper thus creating a blockage. I never really knew about cotton swabs creating such a problem. I always thought earwax was like dirt but in fact, it is very vital for our ears. It protects our ears from dust and other foreign matter. I only got to know this when I visited the doctor. I just wanted to share this with all of you out there who still use cotton swabs/pins to clean your ears every now and then. Please do not use them as it is very bad for your ears and it could even cause temporary hearing loss. Do take great caution while cleaning your ears. Hope I could help at least some of you. Good day everyone.

I read something about that quite recently in the mainstream press - can't remember where. Thanks!
