Looking at yarrow, it looks brilliant. I actually think I saw it growing out in the horse pasture. Wouldn't that be handy!

Small update. As I havnt left the house, I tried a remedy for bleeding I found online. I drank cinnamon tea all day (yogi classic with additional cinnamon sticks in it), and the bleeding has stopped!

Also since starting the castor oil packs and vitex, the pain is gone most of the time. Hope this can help someone else. I have no illusions that I've dissolved a 6cm cyst in 4 days, but with the pain at bay, I feel much better, and believe it must be shrinking.

Glad you are feeling better! I hope it is a 'trend'!

Just out of curiosity, what is the dosage for the vitex?
I ask because it seems that the recommended dosage on many herbal preparations is off by half (at least), the thinking now is for 'maintenance' go with the written dosage but for ACUTE situations it maybe necessary to double the dose or increase the number of doses.
Something to look into.

Interesting, becuase I have doubled the dose! I am taking a vogel tincture. It says 15-20 drops twice a day. I am big in research, and looked at alot of forums from women taking it, and I kept noticing people saying the effects could get worse before getting better, and several mentioned that they took all of it in the morning only (instead of splitting it up).

I then found an actual study done by researchers in holland, and they were using a dose of 42 drops 1x daily, and found it made a significant difference to 80% of the trial patients. So I decided 42 drops was going to be my magic number.

Funnily enough, I had looked into hormone balancers, and found info on vitex (esp here), but when the woman at the health food store recommended chaste berry, I had no idea it was vitex.

Should I be taking more? I had cramps the first day I took it, but the sore breasts are gone, and after the cramps, the heavy bleeding started for 7 days, and then it stopped. So hoping maybe I can get back to regular cycles for at least a while longer.

Had an appt with my gynae today. It seems I am not enterting menopause. I have been diagnosed with pcos. So I was not getting periods becuase my hormones were not triggering the egg to drop. Surgery with removal of the ovary is the recommendation.

I've been reading a bit about pcos. I worry that removing the ovary makes the remaining ovary more prone to cysts. But if I do have pcos, cysts are in the cards regardless. I'm hoping losing a bit if weight and taking vitex will sort my hormones.

Any experience with pcos would be welcome as this is a new and unexpected diagnosis. I have my star baby (now 4yrs old) after many miscarriages, so having more children was not something I was considering, so thats ok.

I would get a second opinion, only for the fact that its always good to have a second opinion. If you can I would go to an ND (naturopathic doctor)

I actually tend to agree with the diagnosis. He is a good dr (tho a western dr just the same!). It is based on my luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels, the fact that this is the 3rd cyst I'm having to have surgically removed, all my previous miscarriages, and how hard it was to get pregnant, and my tendency to be slightly over weight.

In saying all that, Im not going to sit back and be "sick" because I've been told I have some syndrom. I've been cyst free (or at least unbothered by any) for 20 yrs. I've gained an unusual amount of weight in the last 3 months. This was due to being a bit poor and eatting badly. I think it spiraled into badness.

I've cleaned up my diet, have already lost 6 pounds just by cuttiing out wheat, sugar and caffeine, and am taking a good range of vitamins for detox and hormone balance. I will not be taking any medication if he tries to give it to me. Will get the surgery as the cyst is multuchambered, solid and extremely painful.

There is a good nutriopath locally, but shes expensive, so can't afford her right now, but it is in the plan. I also have a fantastic acupuncturist who (I believe) kept me from losing my star baby. So I will deal with it, and get healthy. I don't have much family so it has been helpful putting my thoughts down here.

I appreciate all of the advice you ladies have given me, and are always open to more. And the bleeding has stopped! Yay!

I do wonder should I be taking more Vitex? Is there such a thing as too much?

Glendalyn, its good to have a diagnosis, and you are moving forward with confidence!
Do you have Susun's book "Down There"? She has a chapter on PCOS and on page 264 she suggests REMOVING all vegetable/seed oils (eat more animal fats...I just saw eat more bacon!!! NO, bacon bad but LARD is a good fat), and she says "Take 2-4 droppersful of VITEX or SAW PALMETTO, take dandelion tincture as needed and drink 3-6 quarts of HERBAL INFUSION (nettle, oatstraw, red raspberry, linden, she says one will see results in about a month), and she mentions FENUGREEK pg. 267, a 20 minute steep tea ( it will make sweat smell like maple syrup!!! lol)
