First aid for rosemary plant

I have just started my annual outdoor container garden today, which is exciting! I have a rosemary plant which lives indoors in the winter, and I brought it out for the first time today, and also repotted it. It is several years old and has not done very well this winter, so I'm looking for advice to help it feel better. A lot of the leaves are dry and dead and falling off; there is still some green, but I wonder if it would be kinder to the plant to prune it back pretty severely so it can put its energy into new green, catch its breath so to speak. I'm hoping that the new larger pot will help, anyway.

Any advice? My sister has a rosemary that is many years old, so I don't think mine is just at the end of its natural lifespan.

Thanks for asking - it's hanging in, fewer dead leaves, but still kind of struggling. I did not prune it back as severely as I thought of doing, but have been cutting off obvious dead twigs.

ItalianBee, container growing is a huge challenge for me, too little water, too much water, pot too hot....I even tried partially burying the pot and I still can't get plants to thrive. I give up...~lol~
Have you tried feeding your Rosemary a little fermented Stinging Nettle infusion? Mulch?

I've never thought of fermented nettle infusion - can you tell me how to make that?

It's in new very rich soil, because I had to repot it, and I worried about the soil being too rich.

Fermented Nettle Infusion.......make an infusion for yourself then allow it to get pushed to the back of the counter...and then in about four or more days remember that you made yourself a jar of yummy nettle infusion, run to the kitchen, yup, there it is way back on the counter, oh my, yup, not drinkable but perfect for watering plants.
Is it possible the new soil doesn't hold the water long enough? Are you watering from the top or bottom?
I have two potted plants that prefer being watered from the bottom, they control how much and when.

Thanks, Lady A. I will try the infusion.

If anything I think the new soil may hold the water too long - rosemary likes it fairly dry. I've always watered it from the top, and it's done fine, but maybe with the new soil it would prefer being watered from the bottom.

Just wanted to check back and say that Rosemary is thriving! I did cut off all the apparently dead stuff (as well as trying your suggestions), which seemed to help her breathe, and she is loving the sunshine.
