I have a close relative with schizophrenia. If you have not seen these yet, looking over these sites may be helpful. Both talk about finding the balance between the truth of your experiences and what is simply "real" or "imaginary", and also how experiences labeled as schizophrenia symptoms can be a meaningful part of one's life.
Recovery From Schizophrenia is a blog by a therapist who has been through his own mental health struggles. He believes medication is often an important part of the journey toward health for those diagnosed with schizophrenia, but the blog also shares stories of people who reduced or eliminated medication or even recovered fully (no relapses and no medication). The blog also talks about a trauma model of the origin of many mental illnesses.
Hearing Voices Network is more of an activist site from a strongly alternative perspective, if not rejecting psychiatry and medication entirely. So I don't know if you'll be interested in that one but I thought I'd mention it because some find the forums and groups helpful.
