Has anyone ever used witch hazel as a gargle? I know it is an astringent, and it is recommended in many of my books for internal use. So, having a sore-ish throat, and having some witch hazel leaves that were newly dried, I thought to make a small amount of infusion with the leaves and gargle with it. I am not sure if the sore throat was beginning to go away anyway (the ones I have with colds are generally worse in the morning) or if it actually helped. I want to believe that it helped.

So glad you found some relief....Yes, I think the Witch Hazel helped, it has been used for gargle and washes for many, many decades...bark and /or leaf.
