Re: growing Elder Berry Sambucs Nigra

Not sure which area of the country you are in, but what I've done is propagated quite a few Elder shrubs from one wild plant I positively identified that was growing alongside a field. They send up lots of little shoots each spring, so I took a spade to one of the side-shoots that had sent up a stal...

Re: Childhood Eczema

Here's an excellent write up in the Weed Wanderings eZine, from Susun herself. :)

Welcome!

(Isn't it awesome having "radical" births. I wouldn't trade 'catching' my own son for any other way. :) )

Re: Infused oils

I am not personally familair with Mullien, other than making my own dried leaves/flowers, but from a vague memory fresh leaves work as well for infused oils. Howeve,r they are very "moist" so you'd have to be careful with mold in your oil, unless you simmer it or such? Sorry I don't have d...

Re: Please Introduce yourselves

Well, I don't use the term shaman, (partially due to cultural concerns personally, but no worries for anyone who DOES use that term. Your choice, go for it! :D ) but I ascribe to the Wise Woman Way and have attended a workshop or two with Susun, plus read her books. I consider myself just "herb...

Re: It's spring! What are you foraging for?

I had a stand of Lambs Quarter that I kept pinching off the tops so it got really bushy and full of seeds each fall. I'd use the seeds in a hearty "multigrain bread" along with chia, oats, and ground flax. Not sure if there's as much medicine in the seeds, but it made tasty bread that &quo...

Re: Herbs / Foods that Dissolve Blood Clots

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with any specifics off the top of my head for Blood Clots, but wanted to bump the thread and reply so it stayed on the "new" filter for our other wonderful wise women to see. :) Best of luck, and healing for your father! Mine went through similar lung issues (th...

Re: question about Comfrey

I'd keep the root for a lovely wound-healing Salve, personally, if you don't feel comfortable taking it internally.
Comfrey is Symphytum, which mean "mender of bones". :)

Re: It's spring! What are you foraging for?

Horray for foraging! Staghorn Sumac suggestion, Strain, strain, strain! lol. There will be about a zillion tiny hairs on the clusters of berries, but it does make a nice bright "sumacade" drink. Enjoy! As for myself, I've mostly been sticking to the abundant garlic mustard, violets, dandel...

Re: Equisetum/horsetail

Not quite a "herbal medicine", but older horsetail plants are great when camping to scrub pots and pans after dinner. :) Do this in scouts periodically, if there's enough around that a handfull won't impact sustainabile growth. I've also heard that due to it's silicon content, it's margina...
